Llancaiach Fawr Manor stands proudly, as it has done since c1550, overlooking the Glamorgan Uplands. The inside of the Manor House has been restored and furnished as it would have been in 1645. All the furnishings in the rooms are accurate reproductions of items from the time of the Prichards.  We were all very impressed with the Manor House as we approached it.

We were welcomed to Llancaiach Fawr Manor House by one of Colonel Pritchard's workers.  Before we were allowed in, we had to assure him that we were not spies and that our behaviour would not be offensive to the Colonel!!!! Our first stop was the kitchen!  The 'maid' showed us how to protect ourselves from diseases.  We used cotton squares, dried mint, lavender and sage....

We were allowed to choose which dried herbs we wanted to use.  We placed a few pinches of our chosen herbs in the centre of the cotton square, folded it corner to corner, and finally secured it with a piece of string. These 'Plague Bags' would have been used by the Tudors to protect themselves from diseases such as the Black Death (also known as the plague) as scientists and scholars at the time believed that diseases could be caught via bad smells in the air!
