Pentrehafod is proud of its good links with the local community through a number of activities, for example:
Parent's evenings, we hold one for our new intake in the summer term before they start at Pentrehafod. Two parent's evenings for Year 7 and Year 11. One parent's evening for Years 8, 9 and 10. An 'Option' evening for Year 9.
Regular PTA meetings ensure our parents are kept up to date with school life and money is raised to support different activities and subjects. An annual 'Quiz and Cawl' night has become a popular social function for parents, staff, our primary colleagues and members of the community. The PTA support school productions and raise money by selling refreshments. In the summer term the PTA organises a school fete with stalls and entertainment.
School productions are very popular and well supported. The school orchestra plays in these productions, as well as, in carol services. We invite older members of our community to a Christmas concert. Each year 'Orchestra Day' invites pupils from our feeder schools to come to Pentrehafod, they practice all day to perform a concert for Headteachers, staff, pupils and parents.
Parents support many sporting activities and our annual 'Sports day'. Year 5 pupils are invited to a 'Primary Sports day'.
To improve transition we invite Year 6 to two 'Induction days', they sample lessons and join in many activities. Pupils have the opportunity to meet their form tutors and are mentored by Year 9 pupils.
Pupils support many charities and have raised money for a number of worthwhile causes.
Our pastoral programme involves speakers from the local community, the police and other services.
Many Year 10 pupils find work placements in the local community. Duke of Edinburgh volunteers carry out various community projects including working in care homes, dog's homes and child line.
Evening classes for adults include sewing, flower arranging and Tai Chi. Our sports facilities are used by the community.
