Attainment & Pupil Achievement

Last modified 04/10/2016 14:28

We are so proud of the numerous individual achievements of many of our pupils and would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge them publicly within our school community, a community that represents true partnership between governors, staff and parents to further the best interests of all our pupils and contribute to their lifelong learning experiences.

At Birchgrove, we strive hard to meet the individual needs of each and every pupil, and, in that respect, we hope that we help everyone to reach his or her full potential during their time with us.  Consequently, we feel privileged to be part of the continuing educational partnership that exists between pupils, parents, teachers, other schools and post 16 providers locally in the City and County of Swansea and across the Region. We are developing close links with our Family of Schools and share good practice in all aspects of educational provision the best interests of young people and their development.  This partnership extends into the local community and to the world of work.

It would be impossible to acknowledge all the achievements gained by our pupils.  Many pupils can make significant progress in personal, academic, cultural and sporting areas during the course of any one week throughout the school year. It is our role as educationalists to develop strategies to allow all our pupils to experience success.  Our  award system is designed to acknowledge exceptional achievement gained in a variety of areas at Birchgrove Comprehensive School ard  seen as both encouraging and challenging to all our pupils, past, present and future.

The progress made by the school over the last 4 years has been tremendous and governors, staff and pupils are really proud of our achievements in a range of school activities.  Individual pupils experienced great academic success and many exceeded predicted outcomes.  I must stress that  we are so proud of our pupil achievements. The significant impact of dedicated subject staff, our Mentoring Programme, additional teaching sessions, our Learning Coaches and  parents combined to see many smiling faces last August. I have no doubt that we will further build upon this success in the years to come.

In September 2010 we became an accredited Centre for the Welsh Baccalaureate and Essential Skills Wales. This fact, together with our triumphs on the sporting field and contributions to the wider community, has confirmed our reputation as an excellent, ambitious, forward thinking school in the City and County of Swansea and the school of choice for our partner primary schools.  Our pupils, support staff, teachers, governors and parents all contribute in their different ways to the success of the school and the school motto ‘Taking Pride in Achievement’ is evident in the way in which the pupils contribute to the high standards that we all set for ourselves.

I look forward to yet another successful year for the school with an increased focus upon improving standards at all levels. In the meantime I should like to congratulate all our pupils for  their own special contribution to the success of the school.

Birchgrove Comprehensive School is a wonderful school, fiercely ambitious for all our pupils and forward thinking in educational developments and provision.  I look forward to hearing great things about our pupils including those who leave us and go on to further education, higher education or the world of work.  Have no doubts that  I and every member of staff will continue to give our best to ensure that future generations of pupils are given the best possible life chances through their education at our school.
