Headteacher Weekly News Wednesday 20th JulyWritten by Evans, Peter on 20/07/2016 08:36:47.
The end of the summer term always produces mixed feelings as we look forward to the holidays but bid farewell to children and staff. Year 6 held their Leavers' Assembly yesterday morning. The children performed an excellent, reflective Assembly, which looked back fondly and humorously on their time in Sketty School. Their performance inevitably aroused a range of emotions in the large audience.
Year 6 then held a party for their buddies in Reception in the afternoon. The party was planned and organised by the children and included a range of lovely activities and party games. It really was a super afternoon and a fitting way for them to finish the year. Year 6 have been a very energetic and dynamic group who have all contributed richly to school life, in so many ways. We shall miss them all and also the other children who are leaving. We wish them all the very best in their new schools as they set out on new adventures.
We also say good bye to long serving teacher Mrs. Christine Thomas, who has decided to finish after 26 years at Sketty. We held a special Assembly where every class performed an item for her. We also held an afternoon tea, when current and many past staff members gathered together to say goodbye.
It has been a busy and productive academic year. The school has achieved its highest ever attendance, at just over 96%. An impressive thirty children received a Gold certificate for 100% attendance for the full academic year. The school has responded to the challenge of the post Inspection recommendations and moved forward significantly in many ways. The staff have worked exceptionally hard to deliver this progress and certainly deserve a break and rest. We hugely appreciate your support during this period. I must also thank the PTA for their enthusiasm, proactivity and tireless work in raising much needed funds for the school and deepening community involvement.
The school is currently developing a new website as the current one will be discontinued by the Council shortly. Details will be shared in September.
We certainly had glorious weather to finish the academic year - let's hope it continues over the holidays. Best wishes for an enjoyable and restful break. School starts back for the children on Monday 5th September.
