We follow Ben and Betty scheme, where children are immersed in the sound of a letter each week through fun, practical activities.

We also focus on a number each week using the Numicon scheme.

The children look at themselves and their experiences within school. They share information and write imaginative captions and labels, using books as stimulation. They remember themselves as babies and create self-portraits.

Children talk about journeys they’ve made, local (to school from home) and long-distance

We will also look at traditional tales linking to topic work which includes winter festivals. Looking at ‘goodies/baddies’, using storytelling as a structure, the children will be retelling and creating a traditional tale.

Using poems, children will explore their feelings about the dark & then relate these to Hanukkah & Christmas. We will begin to think about the meaning of Christmas. Children will look at candles, cook, make Advent calendar & stars & create a Christmas poem.

We will follow the Numicon scheme of work for Mathematical Development  –

Looking at counting to 10, pattern,  shape, order and comparison of numbers
