Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you had a lovely summer and welcome back to the new school year.

This term we shall be venturing ‘Into the Woods’, where we will be learning about the various creatures that live within and around this popular habitat.  As part of this topic we will also be reading a wide selection of fairy tales and creating our own ‘twisted’ versions of these classic stories.  In ICT we shall be recording news reports based on our fairy tales.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for your support

Mrs P Jefferies

Within Literacy we shall be reading stories and poems with a woodland theme.  Many of these will be familiar fairy tales like Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel.  We will be using the Hansel and Gretel book by Anthony Browne to create our own alternative version from the wiches point of view. In writing we shall be focusing on using capital letters and full stops correctly and applying our phonic knowledge when spelling unfamilair words.

Numeracy will be taught through a range of written and practical activities, songs, rhymes and games.  It will involve varied number work, length, 2D and 3D shape, days of the week/months of the year and data handling.

Knowledge and Understanding

In Knowledge and Understanding we shall be focused on developing our map skills, our routes around school and the routes of storybook characters. We shall also be looking at how the council look after their woods/trees and parks, what happens when trees are cut down?

Parents Evening

On Wednesday September 13th  we will be having our first parents evening.  This meeting will provide you with an opportunity to meet us in person and discuss expectatiuons for the year ahead.  This will also allow you to ask any questions you may have about the forthcoming year.
