NEW GORS LOGOCroeso! butterfly

Febuary 2018

Welcome back, I hope you had a lovely half term. We are all ready for the exciting new half term. Here are a few reminders and information for you.

Our topic for this half term is still The Victorians; the children are really enjoying and have already completed fantastic work around this topic. They enjoyed our school trip to St Fagan’s and having a taste of Victorian life. We have lots more fun activities and lessons planned.

Children have a choice of engaging 'Pick'n Mix' homework activities to complete each week.  Homework will be given out on Friday with a date given for its return.  Please can you ensure your child completes their homework on time.

The children are expected to change their reading books themselves once they have read it. We listen to the children read throughout the week. We have guided reading sessions, which is where we read as a group. It is important that you try to listen to your child read every night. Please leave a comment  in their reading records.

Times tables

Please support your child to learn their tables at home.  Times table have a huge impact on children's ability to see patterms in maths, which is crucial for all areas.  We can advise you on useful websites to use too.  The children really enjoy using J2blast, which they can use at home!

Your child will be given spellings every Monday to take home and learn ready for their spelling test on the Friday. Please could you encourage your child to learn their spellings at home. Thank you.

P.E is every Thursday.  Please make every effort to ensure your child has a  P.E. kit on this day.  A t-shirt, shorts/joggers and trainers.  We are focusing on dance.

In numeracy, this term we will be covering measures, money, time, volume and function machines. We will also be preparing children for the National tests through looking at example questions.

In literacy we are looking at story writing, through Pie Corbett and the story of Lazy Jack.  We will also be looking at persuasive letter writing, which will be linked to our topic of The Victorians.

The children will continue to use HWB. Don’t forget that it can be used for work at home.
