February 2018 Croeso!

Welcome back, I hope you had a lovely half term. We are all ready for the exciting new half term. Here are a few reminders and information for you.

Our topic for this half term is still The Victorians; the children are really enjoying and have already completed fantastic work around this topic. They enjoyed our school trip to St Fagan’s and having a taste of Victorian life. We have lots more fun activities and lessons planned.  In literacy we are looking at story writing, through Pie Corbett and the story of Lazy Jack. We will also be looking at persuasive letter writing, which will be linked to our topic of The Victorians. In numeracy, this term we will be covering measures, money, time, volume and function machines. We will also be preparing children for National tests by looking at example questions.

The children are expected to change their reading books themselves once they have read it. We listen to the children read throughout the week. We have guided reading sessions, which is where we read as a group. It is important that you try to listen to your child read every night. If you want to make a comment, please write in their reading records.

Times tables

Please support your child to learn their tables at home. We can advise you on useful websites to use too. The children really enjoy using J2Blast, which they can use at home!

Your child will be given spellings every Monday to take home and learn ready for their spelling test on the Friday. Please could you encourage your child to learn their spellings at home.

Tell the time

Please help your child to read the time on an analogue clock using hands and then they can move on to reading a digital clock. Some children find it difficult to learn this skill, so it is very useful to have just 5 minutes practice each day until they grasp it.

Children have a choice of engaging ‘Pick ‘n Mix’ homework activities to complete each week. Homework will be given out on Friday each week and should be returned by the following Wednesday.

P.E is on Thursday afternoon.  Year 3 pupils will be swimming this half term with Miss Evan's Y3 class.  Year 4 will learn Dance with Miss Parkhouse and Miss Symons.  Please make every effort to ensure you child has appropriate P.E. kit for the lessons - Year 3 should remember their swimming costumes (no bikinis), a towel and goggles if they withs to wear them.  Now earring.jewellery please and long hair must be tied back.

The children will continue to use HWB. Don’t forget that it can be used for work at home.
