Spring Term 2 2018

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome back we hope you have had a wonderful and refreshing break.  We have another exciting term of activities planned, with new learning challenges in all curriculum areas. We can’t wait to get started!!


Our topic this term is ‘Castles’

 

Literacy

In literacy we shall be continuing with Jolly Phonics and Jolly Grammar.  We will also be learning how to use ‘adjectives’ and ‘connectives’ in our story writing, creating information pamphlets and writing a recount. Spellings will continue to be sent home on Fridays and strategies will be included to help your child learn them.  We shall also be starting ‘Rapid Reading’ groups in class, information to follow.

 

Numeracy

Throughout this term we shall be handling money, learning about time beginning able to read half past, ¼ past and ¼ to on an analogue clock and hours and minutes on a digital clock. We shall also be looking at data handling and graphs.  In multiplication the children will continue to learn their 2, 5, 10 times tables, please practise with them at home.  These skills will then be applied to reasoning and problem solving questions..

 

Knowledge & Understanding of the World

Our topic this term has a History theme and we shall be exploring the life of William the Conqueror and looking at castles through time.  We shall also be investigating what life was like for those who lived and worked in castles.  We shall also be looking forward to celebrating St David’s Day on March 1st.  We shall be celebrating World Book Day after Easter on April 25th.

 

Welsh

RE

This term we shall be looking at ‘Beginnings’ and exploring the special celebrations and customs associated with the birth of a child.

Class Dojo

If you have not yet signed up to Class Dojo please ask for information. We will endeavour to use it more this term as it is the most effective way of passing on information/letters and communicating with parents/carers.
