Our topic this term

Imagine the World!

Dychmygwch y byd!

Dear Reception parents,

We have had a very busy start to the year in Reception, and now we are settled into our routines and making the most out of our learning experiences. We started the year with the topic ‘Marvellous Me’, where we shared lots of information about ourselves and now as the seasons change we are going to be learning lots about the change of seasons - our new topic is Colours of Autumn, and will take us up to the end of term. It is set to be a very busy six weeks for us, particularly with our Christmas concert coming up. Our Christmas show is scheduled for Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th December, further information will follow.
As always, if you have any questions or need to see us about anything, please do not
hesitate to call in.

Kind regards
Miss Evans, Mrs Turpitt & Dr Broad

Literacy and Numeracy

This half term we will continue developing our writing, our main focus is information writing. Where we will be applying writing skills to different areas, as a way of planning a very special event (details to follow).
As a year group we have worked hard on both number formation and number recognition in the first half term of Reception - we will continue with these basic skills, whilst moving onto looking at shapes, symmetry and position. If you’d like to support your child at home, then have them practising reading and writing
numbers to at least 10, this will hugely benefit their learning in school.

We’ve been enjoying daily phonic sessions, where we are working hard to learn our sounds. We’ll be
moving onto blending sounds soon, to help us read. We use Jolly Phonics as a tool for teaching phonics, the jingles that we use can be found online if you’d like to practise at home.

Reading books

As a team we have decided that it would be a good idea for children to share library books at home with you for now, to ensure that we are enjoying reading. Reading activities will be sent home in the near future, to support children in learning to read.  This will start with learning the characters of the Oxford
Reading Tree and how to sight read the names.

We will be continuing with homework choice wheels this half term, can we try our best to get
homework completed and handed in by Wednesday each week. With the choice wheels, children should pick one activity to complete per week.

General reminders

P.E will continue to be held on Tuesdays for Miss Evans’ class and Wednesdays for Dr Broad’s class, it is likely to be held indoors due to cold weather at the moment.
Pupils are provided with milk daily, free of charge. Fruit is provided at a cost of £1.25 per week, please pass this onto a
member of staff on a Monday morning if possible, in an envelope marked with your child’s name.

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and ClassDojo to see what we get up to in school!
