Our topic this term

Miss Evans and Dr Broad

Dosbarth Derbyn

Dear Reception parents,

Welcome bacl to our second term in Reception and the beginning of 2018, as a team we are very excited for the upcoming term and have lots of lovely learning planned for the pupils.  Our new topic is called 'Fee Fi Fo Fum', that will engage the pupils through the use of many fairytales, and provide them with a variety of learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.  We have a relatively short half term ahead of us, but it is sset to be very busy in our classes.  Keep up to date with us by checking Classjojo regularly, we are also aiming to use the school twitter account for important notices.

As always, if you have any questions or need to see us about anything, please do not hestitate to call in.

Kind regards
Miss Evans, Mrs Turpitt & Dr Broad

Literacy and Numeracy

This half term we will continue developing our writing, our main focus in persuasive writing.  Where pupils will be given different scenarios to persuade each other.  We will be continuing to learn our sounds, using Jolly Phonics, which can also be accessed at home if you wish to support your child at home, please do not hesitate touse home learning books to practise letter writing.

In mathematics we will be continuing with number practise, particularly looking at numbers beyond 10 and counting more than 10 objects, along with measuring and solving simple addition problems.  Lots of our maths will be taught through topic, to give the pupils an opportunity to develop their skills in an exciting context, for example measuring Jack's beanstalk and counting magic beans.

Reading books

We will shortly be distributing new reading books, tht follow the Oxford Reading Tree scheme, as well as using phonics to aid your child's reading.  Pupils will continue to receive various reading activities to supplement their home learning, particularly targeted sound work.  We would appreciate your support in teaching your child with phonics, as this is fundatmental in supporting their reading in the future.

We will be continuing with homework choice wheels this half term, can we try our best to get
homework completed and handed in by Wednesday each week. With the choice wheels, children should pick one activity to complete per week.
