Key Stage 2 Specialist Teaching Facility for Pupils with Autusm

  Spring Term 2016

This term our topic is the Wild Wood. The children have been reading the story 'The very hungry caterpillar' which was brought to life using different sensory objects. We have visited Coed Clase, where they have been exploring and searching for mini beasts that inhabit this area. The children have been looking at environmental issues in our community and litter picking in the area. We have also collected natural resources from our woodland area to create art work in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.

 Spring Term 2015

 Spring Term Update!

This term we have been finding out about flight. We all enjoyed our visit to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Centre in Llanelli, where we learned about how birds fly. We fed the ducks and all liked the pink flamingos.

We also had a trip to Swansea airport, where we were thrilled to watch a helicopter landing. While we were there, we also saw some small aeroplanes taking off and landing. Everyone was really excited.

As part of our theme, we have enjoyed the story of the Blue balloon. We have explored balloons -  blowing them up, and throwing and catching them with our friends. We explored lots of different things in our windy day activities – windmills, paper aeroplanes, ribbons, flags and even confetti !

We have been celebrating lots of events this term – Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Saint  Davids Day, Mothers Day and Easter. It has been a very busy term.

After the holidays we will be looking forward to our topic called Global Gourmets, reading the story of Handa’s Surprise, and finding out about fruits and vegetables. We will even be growing some vegetables of our own!

Last term we enjoyed the topic Bones, Blood and Gory Bits! We learned about ourselves, our senses and read the story of Funnybones. We all had fun doing a skeleton dance, and even composed our own tunes. We found out about our 5 senses, and enjoyed food tasting and cooking activities.

Christmas was a busy time in our class. We took part in the carol service at the church, visited Santa at the Winter Wonderland in Three Crosses, and went to watch the pantomime at the Grand Theatre. We all took part in the Christingle service in school, and took home our Christmas crafts to show to our families.

This half term we will be learning about People who help us. We are looking forward to a visit from the fire engine, and will be meeting our local PCSO.

We will be reading the story of The Jolly Postman, and will write cards and letters to send to our friends and family. We will have a Post Office role play area, and will visit the local Post Office.

We will be learning about road safety, and walking around the local area. We will meet the School Crossing Patrol person, and will practise using the pedestrian crossing safely.

During the term we will be celebrating Chinese New Year, and Dydd Santes Dwynwen.

 Autumn term

Our theme this term is Dream for a Dragon, and we have been learning about Celtic life and Welsh legends and tales.

We had a fantastic time visiting Castell Henllys Celtic Village in Pembrokeshire, where we explored the round houses, helped to grind flour, baked bread and painted our faces like Celtic warriors! We even met some ‘real’ Celts!

Back in school, we made some flat bread, and thoroughly enjoyed exploring our own wattle and daub.

We have designed our own celtic patterns, and composed our own music with Miss Smith.
