Welcome to Year 4/5!
Here you can find all the information about our class routines.
Dinner Money and Snack Money
School dinner money is now paid via sQuid. Please see the relevant letter sent home to set up your account. If your child would like to change from sandwiches to school dinners or vice versa, please give the school a week’s notice.
As part of the County Healthy School Initiative, we encourage children to eat fruit at morning break. Fruit will be available to buy in school at a cost of 15p per day.
In class, each child has been provided with a school pen and pencil. Children are to write in black ink. They will be using green and purple pens for marking and evaluating their own and each other’s work (which will be provided by the school). There is also a stationery area in the class, which contains rubbers, sharpeners, rulers, coloured pens and pencils, scissors, glue etc. Your child is very welcome to bring in a pencil case with their own equipment, as this would be helpful in reducing school costs.
Homework is a way of enhancing the three way relationship between the teacher, the parents and most importantly the child. Please feel free to comment at the bottom of each homework sheet to let me know how your child is coping. Homework will be sent out every Friday and should be returned to school the following Wednesday. Please could your child make every effort to return the homework on the correct day.
Reading is a key skill which permeates the whole curriculum and in school we endeavour to foster a love of books and reading. There is a selection of books available to borrow form the class library, but your child is welcome to bring in a book from home if preferred. Every Monday is ‘Magazine Monday’, when your child can bring in a suitable comic to read during our quite reading session.
PE and Forest School
Please could your child bring shorts and a t-shirt to change for PE. Our session is on a Tuesday afternoon each week. The school PE uniform is a white t-shirt and navy or black shorts. Please label all clothing.
Forest school clothing should be wellingtons and waterproof clothing, or old clothes and trainers that are already tarnished. Forest schools sessions will be in 2 week blocks, rotated across the juniors. A reminder will be sent on the homework sheets, and via a text message.
Lateness and Absences
It would benefit your child if they could arrive punctually in the morning as the first part of every session provides much of the basis for the rest of the day’s work. If your child is not able to come to school we would be grateful if you could inform us by either letting us know personally, in writing or by telephoning the school secretary. If you intend to take a holiday during school time, permission must be sought from the Head teacher.
As well as informing the school of any allergies your child may have, it would also be helpful to be reminded of these from time to time when your child may be participating in cooking or tasting activities.
Research has shown that children concentrate better if they have plenty to drink. In addition to your child’s lunchtime drink, please could your child bring an extra bottle of water (labelled with their name) to school each day. These bottles will be accessible to your child throughout the day and will be returned home at the end of each day for re-use.
Consent forms for educational visits and photograph permissions will be sent out shortly. Please could you endeavour to complete and return them as soon as possible, allowing us to enhance opportunities available to the children.
My aim is to ensure your child is happy in school, foster a love of learning and promote healthy, happy relationships within a safe environment. I set high expectations for all the children and I hope it will be a wonderful year for them, one in which they will work hard, play hard and be the best they can be. I have an open door policy, so if you have any concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to see me at the end of the day, or arrange an appointment.
Many thanks in advance for your support and co-operation. I’m sure we are going to have a fantastic year!
